Unfulfilled potential = vanity - reality.

It sounds to me like you learned a lot about running and about yourself, which might not have happened if the road / year had taken a different turn.

Running is the goal itself, not the finish line... Everything else is vanity.

torn on the running streak. current one is 186 days. last one did help with my marathon PR, that ended in 229 days with a stress fracture in my 3rd metatarsal.

think it helps some runners. but you have to known when to take a day off. streaks don't mean anything except to the person running the streak.

best of luck with the rowing.

LOL. I know the boredom. I used to row quite a bit a few years ago when two of my kids were rowing (real boats). I used to break the boredom up by doing pyramids, sprints, etc. Before I knew it I was rowing up to 90 minutes a day, three days a week.

You are not that old. You will recover from this, and..seriously, you will NOT lose all fitness. It is amazing to me how every time I take major time off from running, including my loss of 6 months to stress fractures and then more recently when I switched to a combo of squash and spinning and then ran kind of casually for two months and ran a 7:02 min/mile 10k w/o even doing speedwork how much miles in the bank don't actually go away. Going "the distance" also means getting injured and coming back. YOU CAN DO IT!

Though truly, it is about the worst thing ever. Gripe away, because it sucks.
